About the Author 作者简介

Ryan Ver Berkmoes:

Ryan Ver Berkmoes has written more than 110 guidebooks for Lonely Planet. He grew up in Santa Cruz, California, which he left at age 17 for college in the Midwest, where he first discovered snow. All joy of this novelty soon wore off. Since then he has been travelling the world, both for pleasure and for work—which are often indistinguishable. He has covered everything from wars to bars. He definitely prefers the latter. Ryan calls New York City home. Read more at ryanverberkmoes.com and at @ryanvb. Ryan’s first job was in Chicago at a small muckraking publication where he had the impressive title of Managing Editor because he was second on a two-person editorial staff and the first person was called Editor. After a year of 60-hour weeks, Ryan took his first trip to Europe, which lasted almost a year and confirmed his long-suspected wanderlust. Since then his byline has appeared in scores of publications and he’s talked travel on the radio and TV.

John Lee:

Born and raised in the historic UK city of St. Albans, John grew up in the lengthy shadow of London, finding as many opportunities as possible to gorge on the capital's rich diet of museums and galleries. Slowly succumbing to the lure of overseas exotica, he arrived on Canada's West Coast in 1993 to begin an MA in Political Science at the University of Victoria. Regular trips home to Britain ensued, along with stints living in Tokyo and Montreal, before he returned to British Columbia to become a full-time freelance writer in 1999.

Now living in Vancouver, John specializes in travel writing and has contributed to more than 150 different publications around the world. These include the Guardian, Independent, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Sydney Morning Herald, National Geographic Traveler and BBC.com. He also has a travel column in Canada's Globe and Mail national newspaper. You can read some of his stories (and see some of his videos) online at http://www.johnleewriter.com. John has worked on around 25 Lonely Planet books, including Canada, British Columbia, Western Europe, Vancouver and Europe on a Shoestring.

Ever-addicted to new experiences, John's favourite trips have included the Trans-Siberian Railway, trekking in New Zealand's Whirinaki rainforest and building his own igloo in the Canadian wilderness. He still has a strong affinity with the UK and visits several times a year to hit as many old pubs as possible, pick-up as much tea as his suitcase will allow and scoff as many bags of cheese and onion crisps as his body will take (47 is the current record).
